In this local market area there are lots of fabric shops for you to browse around and to delight in the vast choice. One favourite with expats is La Mode. The market offers lots of other things too so take some time to look around.

Fabrics and haberdashery at incredibly cheap prices. Take your driver with you for company and translating as it can feel a little claustrophobic.

Baby Jim can copy clothes from a picture or design an outfit for you. She makes ballgowns, party dresses, office wear and uniforms. She also sells hand woven Indonesian fabrics and clothes.
She is also studying for her PhD in Psychology, works as an AIDS activist for prisoners, HIV infected women and children, sex workers and their clients and injecting drug users.
All profits go to her charity causes.

Embroidery and Clothing Labels

Pasar Mayestik
You can have cloth labels, towels and other items embroidered with your child’s name (great for school or soccer tops). You will find a two-story blue-and-yellow building in the middle of the complex – this is where all the tailors’ shops are. If you go to the second floor, you’ll see lots of booths with reels of thread in myriad colours and people working away at machines. All of these places can do embroidery. Not much English is spoken, so be patient and take a sample of what you want. While you’re there, take the opportunity to browse - there is everything from tambourines to kids’ wellington boots.
