Department Stores and Shopping Malls
Department stores such as Metro, Pasaraya, Matahari and Sogo all have children’s floors packed with clothing and shoes. Mothercare (U.K. brand selling good quality baby and small children's clothing & accessories) has shops in most shopping malls as do a lot of the brands that you may know from your home country. Shoe shopping for kids can be difficult, as most places don’t measure your child’s foot and the size numbering system varies with different manufacturers but you can use our shoe size conversion chart here to help you. A lot of people still buy school shoes when they visit their home country as there is not as much choice here for good leather shoes.

Birds and Bees
This well-presented store sells a good selection of reasonably priced children's clothes catering from newborn through to toddler.
Also there is a variety of branded and high quality baby equipment including Nuk, Pigeon, Dr Browns, Avent, Baby Organic and Gaia.
Upstairs there is a selection of strollers, cots, bedding and household baby-safety equipment along with a small selection of toys. .
There are now five shops in Jakarta (the one I visited was the shop on Hanlekir which is conveniently located near Senayan City).

Nicely presented shop selling good quality, well designed imported clothing. Age ranges differ depending on the brand but you can find sizes from newborn to 4 or 6 year old children. Brands include Blossom (Singapore), Dolce Orsetto (Japan) and Miniman (France). Also sells small range of Sassy products. Prices for clothing are all under Rp 300,000.

Little Toes
Gorgeous baby and childrens clothes (up to around 7 years). Not cheap, but good quality and international brands such as Dwell Baby and Pediped and Riley Roo shoes. Also has some swimwear, rash suits and matching hats. Fabulous tutu skirts for little girls. Also stocks baby equipment and maternity wear. Visit their store or order online.

Mocakidz
Just next to Kidsroom, this small shop mostly sells babies‘ and young children’s clothing. However, a fairly big selection of cuddly teddy bears was available as well as some other toys, accessories, and a small range of shoes for babies and toddlers. Staff were friendly and tried hard to find the sizes and colours I was looking for. Stock is likely to change as apparently the owners travel a lot and pick up things as they come across them to sell in the shop.

Factory Outlets
An excellent and very reasonable way to clothe yourself and the family, although the selection can be hit and miss. Stock is mostly over production, seconds and unsold goods. Brands that have been seen and bought include; Next, Gap, H&M, Esprit, Old Navy, M&S, Abercrombie and Fitch and some top designer names. Be aware that size labeling can be a problem. Best advice is to take along an item as a comparison or try on in the shop.
