Medications

While many people bring a supply of medications with them, a wide variety is available from local pharmacies. It is easy to purchase painkilling medicines such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen for all ages. Many drugs are available here 'over the counter' at a pharmacy that would be 'prescription only' in many countries. Counterfeit medication is a problem in Indonesia, so it is widely advised to use only a trustworthy pharmacy rather than a street side Apotik.

If you are a member of the International SOS 'Blue Card' Worldwide assistance program, hard to obtain medications (i.e. brand names from your home country) can be sourced outside of Indonesia and arranged for you, however this service can prove to be very expensive.

See the table here for a cross referenced list of medications.

First Aid Kits

International SOS and Global Doctor have First Aid Kits for sale. It is a good idea to have one at home, as well as one in your car. If you want to make up your own, look for information in your baby books, a first-aid book or on the internet to ensure you have the basic components. Regularly check the use-by-dates on the products in your kits. International SOS offers a comprehensive description of their range of first aid kits for all occasions at www.sosindonesia.com/Default.aspx?tabid=59

First Aid Courses

International SOS operates a state of the art Medical Training centre at their main Cipete location and offers an exhaustive list of training options. The courses can be run in either Bahasa Indonesia or English and are led by experienced instructors who have actually used the techniques to stabilize patients and save lives in remote sites across Indonesia. A comprehensive listing of available courses can be found at www.sosindonesia.com/Default.aspx?tabid=58. Courses can also be run outside of the training centre when required.

Global Doctor run a basic First Aid and CPR course. Contact Edi Sudiman for more information.

For your staff contact JICC to register for their next available course, they use International SOS for this.
