Play Centres

Amazing Place - (Formally Kidszone)
Kidszone is now closed downstairs. A new play area has opened up on the top floor at Pacific Place Mall (next to Kidszania). It has all the usual climbing, sliding, jumping, spinning activities that our little ones love! This is an ideal spot to let your children run wild while you eat or shop! It isn't cheap but it is unlikely that children would want more than an hour there, it isn't that big. Socks are required. There is also an arcade area attached for the older kids.

Bondies - CLOSED. UPDATED Oct 2011
This place has a big dining/lounge & cafe area, a library and a great indoor playground, as well as art and craft activities for the kids. The soft play area has a ‘socks only’ policy and there are tunnels, ladders, bridges, ball pools and slides. Moms can sit at the dining area or at the cafe which is on the same level as the kids play area. The cafe has an excellent range of snacks, salads, pastas, Asian food and beverages with a great kids' menu. It's also a party venue, so call ahead.tipbox Playgroups

Circuz Party and Play
Your children will enjoy this small but clean play centre. Best to come early before it gets too noisy. Bring your nanny and enjoy the mall while they play. Also offers party packages and ballet and chess lessons. Call for more details as schedule varies.

Citaku
Good for crawling babies and up. The ball pit was the largest I've seen in Jakarta. Drop your kids with the nanny and do your shopping at Hypermart (like Carrefour). No English is spoken and socks required. There is also a Timezone in this mall. The centre is just off the toll road to Bogor, with the same exit as JPEC Sentul stables, so you can go for a pony ride afterwards.

Fun Place
A slightly different style to some of the other centres. This one includes a drum kit, basketball hoops and other ball games. There is a large soft-play area for babies and toddlers with a ball pit, Little Tikes play equipment, and a little book area. There are many fast-food outlets nearby on the same floor. Suitable for ages 1 to 7. Plaza Senayan is a short walk (yes, walk!) away so it’s a good place to tie in with a shopping expedition.tipbox Make a Sandbox

Giggle the Fun Factory
Jakarta & Indonesia's first indoor water play centre! The water play section is not open until December 2010 but there is a dry play centre area as well. A bright airy space with a lovely area for smaller children including slides, swings, ball pit, mini wheel barrows and foam blocks to move about and build with. There is plenty of seating in this area for parents too and it has a nice feel to it. The older children's area is much like any of the other play centres - climbing, sliding, tunnels, not very big but enough to do to occupy an hour or so. We went with two 7 year olds and a 3 year old and our 3 year old definitely got more out of the experience than the older children! We visited on a Saturday afternoon but as the centre has only recently opened it was not busy or too noisy. The water play area looks like it will be most suitable for under 6's, it is elevated waterways at the right height for toddlers and young children, our 7 year olds would be towering over it. There were plastic aprons hanging up so we assume that children can wear these to keep their clothes dry. At Rp 50,000 entry for all day play it is good value for younger children. The toilets are clean but have no toilet paper, there is no soap when washing your hands nor paper towel for drying hands so go prepared, perhaps these vital things will be introduced as they get more organised. Socks are needed for the dry play area, both for children and adults. There is no catering within the play area and actually not a huge amount of food options on Level 5 of the mall but we found more options in the basement. Kidz Station toy shop is due to open on Level 5 soon but FX Lifestyle X'nter really does not have a lot of shops in it, we were surprised.

Pirate Playground
Am amazing pirate ship, aimed at 6 to 15 year olds, comprising of walkways and an obstacle course which the children have to attempt by way of a harness attached to what they call a 'skytrack' (an overhead rail). In addition there is a bungy trampoline and bouncy castle climbing wall in a glassed off area at the front, near a nice cafe. These activities cost extra. There is also a sandpit in this area.

Tamani Kids Adventure Land
A cozy, cheerful place for children. The playground consists of soft tunnels and slides to keep the children busy and entertained at the same time. A note for younger children is that the tunnels and slides are on the steep side. There is a small separate soft play area for babies/toddlers. Socks are required. The package of Rp. 25,000 per child entitles every child to unlimited time in the play area (unlike Gymboree) and rewards him/her with an ice-cream at the end of the play session. So there is no problem in getting the kids to come away from the play area at the end of the play session!! The Cafe which calls itself “Adventure Land” also hosts birthday parties. Since Tamani Kids has become an extremely popular venue for birthday parties and it is often closed for the same, it’s advisable to call them before taking the kids for a play date there.

@ america
@ america is a cutting edge digital centre where you can explore and experience the United States through discussions, web chats, performances, interactive games, debates, live events and exhibitions. This inter-cultural centre was developed by the U.S Embassy in Jakarta along with Indonesian and American partners to build relationships between young Americans and Indonesians. This is a really interesting place for children and young adults aged 15 and above. The topics are changed every two months.

There is an auditorium, a fantastic 3D Goggle earth screen; plenty of touch screen computers and when you register you can use the in-house tablet computers. Students can also find out about studying at an American university. There are friendly e-guides on hand to help you out.

The security checks are what you would expect upon entering: no food or drink allowed, bags must be put under lock and key.

Arcade Games

Time Zone
A large and very noisy indoor arcade with tons of games to play. You purchase a card at the cashier and the Rupiah amount is put on the card. You then use the card to swipe to start each game or ride. Some games spit out tickets that are redeemable for prizes. After many weeks of bringing home small prizes, our son is now saving his tickets to get a larger prize some day. There is a toddler area and for older ones, the games are what it’s all about! Our 4-year-old really enjoys the basketball toss games and the water squirting ones as well. They have basically every kind of game you can imagine. Check web site for all locations.

Laser Game Indonesia

Generous Sponsor of Family Guide to Jakarta
LaserGame uses a combination of sensors, laser technology, and customized software to make the experience as surreal as a computer game. Even the theme is partly inspired by computer games. Our briefing room is done in a spaceship theme and filled with specially designed vests that have blinking sensors that players will wear during a game. As the game begins, the 2 teams enter the darkened, black-lit arena. Music and lighting effects all set the stage. The players tag their opponents with blasts of red phaser beams. When you get zapped, you simply re-energize, and get back into battle.

This is not about war... It is more a strategic tagging game. There is no pain and no paint in this game!

Our game is safe for kids, friendly for girls, and yet challenging for boys. We offer the fun experience in an airconditioned game arena. Age 8 - 88! Rental of whole unit for parties is per hour. Please call for more information.

Laser Golf
Located upstairs from Laser Game in Kemang, this glow-in-the-dark indoor putt-putt golf is great entertainment for kids and the young-at-heart! They have golf clubs in a range of heights/sizes to suit kids of all ages. Our 3yr old faired just as well as mum, and even got a hole-in-one! If taking young children just be aware that the whole upstairs is in total darkness: the walls and ceilings are black, but are decorated with lovely neon murals of the deep sea. I'd recommend taking few personal effects with you - your hands will be busy with your club and as it's dark there's not really anywhere safe to leave a handbag etc. which would be an even bigger issue at peak times with lots of people around. Scoreboards available for those who have the competitive edge, we didn't bother this time as the focus was just on fun. If going with a group they allow a max. of 4 people per hole at any one time - just like the real thing!

Birthday parties also catered for.

A review of this centre by a Jakarta mum; my son made a Lion robot which he could make 'growl, leap and eat' a bone by clicking on the computer program that he was shown how to use while constructing his robot. There were some displays of working model and piles of Lego in boxes to construct the mikrobot of their choice. We went shopping while my son and his friend were there having filled out a form and left our mobile numbers with the staff. You can also purchase sets of WeDo Lego (not cheap!) which are not available in the shops to construct your robot, software costs are extra. Having checked the Lego website this is a new concept only available in a few countries and one of them is Indonesia! Our son loved his time there and we will definitely go again.

For a little bit of Indonesian culture in the heart of Kemang, take your family to the ethnic galleries in gedung DUA8. There are collections of art and cultural items from different parts of eastern Indonesia, such as tribal weaponry from the Asmat people in Papua. The collections are not extensive and it will take you about 30 minutes to see everything in this modern, air-conditioned museum.
