Maternity Clothing

Maternity wear is not always the easiest type of clothing to buy wherever  you live in the world. Here in Jakarta you have a few options. The luxury of having talented dressmakers readily available should help make your maternity wardrobe comfortable and stylish. Alternatively, if you are visiting your obstetrician in Singapore then check out the many maternity shops in the malls – Tanglin Mall has a particularly good selection of maternity clothes shops.

Department Stores

You can find specialist maternity wear stores in most of the popular malls, as well as a good range of maternity clothing in most department stores:

Maternity Clothing Stores

9 Months
Shop refurbished December 2010. This store sells mainly maternity clothing – tops, trousers and some dresses. Occasionally you may find an outfit suited to western tastes, but it does tend to cater for Indonesians. Maybe worth a look if you’re passing. Their stock includes lingerie, newborn clothing, prenatal and baby toiletries.
They also have some toys for sale as well in their concept store HLG (within the 9 Months shop) and the owners also run baby massage, art and craft, jewellery making and dance classes for children.

Baby’s Galore
This shop sells baby equipment but there is also a small, but relatively tasteful, selection of maternity clothing including nightwear.

Blooming Chic
Good selection of maternity clothes in neutral and bright colors; plain and patterned fabrics of both Indonesian and western designs. A lot of the fabric is imported from Japan and the clothes are made in Indonesia and Singapore. Nice selection of trendy trousers made in stretch cotton with stretch panel fronts.

Pincca
This is not a maternity shop, but does have some lovely items already made up such as the 100% pure cotton, embroidered white baggy shirts. They also sell lots of silk in gorgeous colors and big sizes. Pincca will alter or make clothes to orders. A great place for eveningwear.

Zal’s
The clothing here is elegant and stylish, using silks in beautiful colors. Lots of Indonesian, ethnic-type tops, long and in good taste. Lots of sarongs and elasticized waists, with sizes going up to XXXL. Call to make an appointment as Zal works from her house.
